Alcohol: The most used and abused drug by adolescents

According to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, June 1997, alcohol is the leading cause of death among adolescents. Teenage drinking contributes to the high rate of car accidents among teenagers, traumatic injuries, suicide and rape. Alcohol is by far the most used and abused drugs among teens today in America. According to a national survey, nearly one third (31.5%) of all high school students reported hazardous drinking five or more drinks in onesetting.

Twenty million Americans are alcoholics, and children of these alcoholics are likely to inherit the disease. Over 40% of those who begin drinking at age fourteen or younger become alcoholic. The problem I see is lack of knowledge about alcoholism is a hereditary disease. Children of alcoholics are four times more likely than other children to become alcoholics, according to the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.

Teens, ifyou have a mother, father or grandparent with the disease, then you might be likely to become alcoholic. This is not a good idea to have even one drink. It's like playing Russian roulette. Abstinence is the best strategy against defying the odds of being another statistic of death in the mechanics of alcoholism.

I come from an alcoholic medium, and I know first hand the destructive effects of what alcohol can do. I had no way of knowing that I would become an alcoholic, evenAlthough my grandfather was an alcoholic. I did not know that at the age of seventeen, while drunk, I'd be driving my best friend and my car rolled three times into a telephone pole. Fortunately for me, I was not hurt, but my friend has back problems for life. And I do not know I'd probably pass on the gene inherited from one of my three son. If I had known this, perhaps, just maybe, I never had that first drink.

I can not tell you in aArticle short all the pain and suffering that I put my mother through when I was drinking in adolescence, or the anguish I put my husband through, but I can tell you this, I was completely freed and forgiven by the love and grace of salvation of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I alcohol free for over fourteen years!

Teens please do not let yourself be trapped in the depths of this insidious disease: the place to learn about the sensitivity of alcoholismwhich is transmitted from one generation to another. The abstinence education is the best way and most effective way of preventing the use and abuse of alcohol.

Just one glass of alcohol if you are a carrier of the gene of a parent is a glass too! And even if you're not likely to become alcoholics, alcohol is very dangerous and can make you do stupid things that you normally would not do. Abstinence is the best policy.
