Pancreatitis is a potentially mortal life can be led to heavy drinking over time or alcoholism. The pancreas provides enzymes the body needs to digest food, and contains cells that produce insulin for your system.

Pancreatitis causes the release of enzymes in your system that causes the destruction of the pancreas itself, causing severe pain, blood loss (due to bleeding in the stomach), infection, and more shock severe cases anddeath. Other signs and symptoms of acute pancreatitis are:

- Fever

- Nausea and vomiting

- Painful swelling of the abdomen and

- A rapid heartbeat

In severe cases, dehydration, low blood pressure, internal bleeding and sometimes shock may occur. With episodes ofAcute pancreatitis, each episode could further damage the pancreas.

Chronic pancreatitis continuous damaging your pancreas and is dangerous because it can take years before signs and symptoms appear. Some people with chronic pancreatitis do not experience any pain, but most have periodic episodes of severe abdominal pain.

Other symptoms of chronic pancreatitis:

- Fever

- Nausea and vomiting

- Weight loss, despite normal diet

--Diabetes

Alcoholism is a major cause, if not the major cause of pancreatitis, and once the pancreatitis has settled, when consumption continues, will likely lead to more serious consequences.
