Recognizing the Signs of Alcoholism

Alcoholism

Alcoholism is a disease. It can be a serious and fatal disease, if left untreated. But like most diseases it does have warning signs and symptoms that can help one to recognize that a problem is developing.

Of course, the most obvious sign is that the person is drinking too much. This person may begin drinking to help cope with a problem or problems in his/her life. This person will generally object that his/her drinking isn't serious. He/she will say that it is recreational and he/she can stop whenever he/she wishes. Yet, the drinking continues.

The drinking will slowly begin to affect this person's life. It may interfere with his/her job performance. It may interfere with his/her social relationships. It may even begin affecting his/her health.

Some of the physical signs that a person will develop that can be indicating signs of alcoholism are:

An increased tolerance to alcoholic. This means the person can drink more or has to drink more to actually become drunk.
The continued use of alcohol even though the person becomes sick (vomiting, headache, etc.)
Frequent abdominal pain
Nausea
Vomiting
Puffy or red eyes
Puffiness of face
Feeling numbness in arms or legs
Swelling of the liver
Blackouts (not remember what he/she did or say while drinking)

There are also emotional signs that a person will develop that can be indicating signs of alcoholism such as:

Depression
Irritability
Sleep disorders
Mood swings
Aggression
Shame and Guilt
Nervousness
Hallucinations
Impaired judgment

A person who is suffering from alcoholism will try to deny that he/she has a problem. If confronted with this problem, he/she may try to cover up his/her drinking, even to the point of trying to hide the alcohol and to by drinking it in secret.

A person who is suffering from alcoholism may also isolate him/herself from friends and family members, especially those who try to confront him/her about the serious of his/her drinking and its effects. This isolation can take place both physically and emotionally.

A person who is suffering from alcoholism may also miss or ruin many social or family events because of his/her drinking.

A person who is suffering from alcoholism will slowly begin drinking more and drinking more frequently. A nightly drink, will also become a morning drink, to help calm the shakes and to calm the nerves. Soon a drink or two will be added to lunch. As time goes on, more and more alcohol will be needed to quench his/her thirst.

Left untreated the signs of alcoholism will only worsen as will the effects of it to the person's body. Over time the body will begin breaking down and showing effects of the continued drinking such as:

Weight Loss
Insomnia
Shaking
Ulcers
Intestinal Problems
Kidney Failure
Liver Failure

And even:

Death

Alcoholism is a disease that will slowly affect one's entire life.

It can impair one's job performance. It can cause one to be late for work. It can cause one to miss work. It can cause one to do poorly on the days they do show up for work.

Alcoholism can affect one's personal relationships. It can cause one to act more aggressive than usual. It can cause one to act like they do not care about those around them. It can cause them to be mean, bitter and hateful.

Alcoholism can cause one to act in ways they would not normally do. It can cause one to cheat. It can cause one to steal. It can cause one to drive recklessly.

Alcoholism can also create havoc on one's personal hygiene. It can cause one's breath to smell. It can keep one from caring about cleanliness such as bathing, wearing clean clothes or even brushing one's teeth.

Without seeking treatment, alcoholics may soon find themselves truly as alone as they feel. They may lose their jobs. Their friends and family may slowly fade from their lives. Even their romantic partners, may soon get fed up and discouraged from the hardships and difficulties they face having to live with them.

Seeking treatment as early as possible is the best thing for any person who is showing signs of alcoholism. Yet, most people will deny they have a problem and will refuse to face it.

If you recognize these signs of alcoholism in yourself or someone you know, please try to seek help while you still can. Contact your local chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous today and learn more about the signs of alcoholism and the treatment of it.

Alcoholism, Drug Addiction and British Family Life -- Help Available in UK

What Happens When Drug Addiction And Alcoholism Join The Mix Of A British Family Unit?

A family no matter how large or small is made up of individuals attempting to work together as a group for mutual benefit and towards goals for better survival and happiness. At the best of times there is a fine balance to keeping one together. Would you agree? Consulting families in the UK, I see the ravages everyday.

There are signs of drug abuse and alcoholism you should know- heed them and start your loved one on the path to recovery the less collateral damage will ensue.

Signs Of Drug, Pharmaceutical and Alcohol Abuse

Distancing self from people they love, becoming more and more detached
Experiencing serious health issues and generally unwell, liver and heart disease
Violence and conflicts, problems with the law and finance, broken relationships
Alcohol tolerance - able to drink more and more without visible unpleasant effects
Withdrawal symptoms if suddenly stop drinking- sleeplessness, sweating, jumpiness, poor appetite, convulsions (and death)
Failing at life, losing job, home, friends
Depression - an appropriate emotional response considering the misery in a failing life
Reduced sexual desire and performance
Increased difficulty understanding, impaired mental function, reduced creativity

Paranoia

The wife and mother who called me one afternoon from London and said quite giddily, "I'd like some information about your alcohol addiction treatment center, it's for my husband." We talked a little more, and I can hear a young child in the background. And I said, "so where is your husband now?" "Well" she laughed, "he is right here in front of me, passed out on the floor. I can either laugh or cry and I'm choosing not to cry right now." Apparently this had been going on for a number of years.

I picture the scene in my head and it is rather grim. Not a vision of a happy family life. Had this lady suffered enough abuse to finally get this sorted out? Honestly, I don't know. I didn't hear back from her. When your mate is passed out on the floor of your home, I can honestly say that there were signs long before it got to this point that indicated where things were going.

Alcoholism and Drug Addiction are not the goals most families set out to reach.
Why do we let it get so bad before deciding to do something about it?

It's hard to admit that the person we love, family, friend is having a serious problem. We want to think that it will get better all by itself and that tomorrow will be a better day. Heed the signs and don't let it get to the point where that family or marriage seems like a complete write-off.

It is possible to end addiction and alcohol abuse for life. It is being done everyday and graduates of the detox and rehabilitation program are starting new lives completely drug free, equipped with the necessary life skills to succeed.

The right detox programs will detoxify, meaning remove a poison or poisonous effect from the body. Drug residues become lodged in the body but there is a correct way to purify it, at the same time restoring vital nutrients and rebuilding impaired tissues and cells, all of which was contributing to the array of health problems an addict suffers.

Primarily these programs are listed as alternative, natural, drug-free, holistic etc. They embrace a social educational learning philosophy of rehabilitation. Social Educational methods refer to learning new ways or skills in working out life's problems. Examples of social educational methods are: Taking vitamins instead of pharmaceuticals; improving communications skills; exercising to deal with stress; motivational interviewing; etc.

The right rehab programs will deal with cravings and set the person up with life's tools to getting along and succeeding in family and in work. One graduate of this portion of one detox and rehabilitation program wrote: I have just participated in a miracle. I would never have believed that I would ever feel this good again. The (detox) program saved my life, my soul, and in addition has made me a better human being. T.K.

There is good and honest help available here to the families of the UK that follows more natural methods of recovery.

Are New Bodybuilding Drugs Safe For Bodybuilders?

Many bodybuilders are using a new drug called human growth hormone, or HGH, to improve their bodybuilding performance.

Human growth hormone is naturally produced by your body's pituitary gland. When that happens, your liver also releases IGF-1. After puberty, the levels lessen and you stop growing new muscle cells. After that point, all you can do is strengthen the muscles you have. Human growth hormone can be used to increase muscle mass. In that way, you can fight back a bit, if you're genetically predisposed to weak muscles.

What makes the new bodybuilding drug, HGH, different from steroids is that, unlike steroids, it helps you to gain muscles slowly, over time. Steroids are designed for fast muscle growth, but they are much more dangerous. The normal way you gain lean muscles is in one or two pound increments every three weeks or so. If you take steroids, you don't actually gain lean muscle. Instead, you gain water weight. That's why humane growth hormone is a better alternative. HGH also helps you to burn body fat, too. So, you can eat more food and not gain too much extra fat.

This new bodybuilding drug has a lot of benefits. It can increase your lean muscles, for example. It can also help you to heal damaged tissues. It can strengthen your joints and ligaments as well. In general, it can really improve your bodybuilding performance. So, if you're looking for a way to boost your workout routine, you might want to consider it.

Although there are many benefits, the news isn't all perfect. One problem that many people have with HGH is that they think it can cause a person's belly to become extended. That could happen, but only if you don't follow the dosage instructions. If you follow the recommendations of a doctor or pharmacist, it shouldn't be a problem at all.

One problem that can accompany steroid use is Acromegalia, which is abnormal bone growth. The great thing about HGH is that it doesn't cause that. While there are a few possible side effects of human growth hormone, there aren't many and they are very rare.

So, HGH can really help you get the bodybuilding results you are looking for, if you use it properly. It can help you to gain healthy weight. It can allow you to build up more lean muscles. It can stop you from losing muscle as quickly when you are having an off period and more. So, you might want to consider taking HGH, under a doctor's supervision.

Alcoholism Illness

Alcoholism

Alcoholism is indeed a very common and serious chronic illness that affects many persons around the world and should not be regarded as a weakness. It is a legitimate disease with known symptoms and an unpredictable course. There is no clear answer why only some persons become addicted to alcohol while others do not. It has been noted, however, that alcoholism does have a genetic component. Nevertheless, this alone is not enough to determine one's likelihood of becoming an alcoholic. Your life circumstances, environment and personal drinking habits play a major role in the development of this disease.

Because of the varied effects of alcoholism (physical, psychological, financial, etc.), it is important that the treatment be approached in a multidisciplinary manner. This will include input from doctors, nurses, counselors and social workers. As with any other disease, the management of alcoholism begins with a proper diagnosis and the formulation of a thorough and appropriate treatment plan. This may include a combination of medication, counseling and support groups.

Medications are often very effective in the treatment of alcoholism. The drug most currently developed and widely used is Campral (acamprosate calcium). This drug helps to maintain abstinence in persons who started their treatment regime alcohol-free. It is presumed to restore the brain's chemical balance, thus making it easier for people not to drink and is generally used in conjunction with psychological support for best outcomes. Other medications that may be used include Revia (naltrexone) and Antabuse (disulfiram), the latter of which is the oldest drug on the market for this purpose. Antabuse induces severe illness with the consumption of even small amounts of alcohol, while Revia reduces the alcohol-induced "high".

It is important to understand that stopping alcohol consumption is only the first step to recovery. Ultimately, behavior change is essential to achieve long term abstinence from alcohol. Specifically, it is the behaviours and the specific circumstances which led to the abuse of alcohol which must be addressed. This may be done through group therapy or individual counseling. There are three common types of behavior therapy which have proven to be effective in promoting alcohol abstinence. These are: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which attempts to modify behavior by examining the effect of your thought process on your actions; Motivation Enhancement Therapy which positively reinforces accomplishments and good practices; and 12- Step Facilitation Therapy which focuses on short-term goals in a graduated road map at a measured pace.

Note that treatment must be individualized since no single medication and behavioral treatment therapy will be effective for everyone.

The Internet - The Latest Form of Addiction?

Internet-Related Addictions

In my travels through cyberspace, I have noticed an increasing number of websites and blogs discussing various forms of Internet-related addictive behavior. In fact, I have recently encountered the following online dependencies: porn, gambling, video games, comment addiction (i.e., checking the comments on one's blog), Internet addiction, blog addiction, Technorati addiction, forum addiction, information addiction, MySpace addiction, and addiction to Bloglines.

This inventory is obviously not an official list gathered from the medical or psychological literature. It is interesting to note, however, that Internet users themselves are the ones labeling their online behavior and the online behavior of others as "addictive."

How Dangerous are Internet Addictions?

While the more "typical addictions" such as alcoholism and drug dependency are more established regarding the various forms of treatment and therapy that are available, employed, and researched, other dependencies, such as the above mentioned Internet-based addictions, are not. The question, however, needs to be asked: how serious are Internet addictions? To help answer this question, consider the following statement made by researchers at the Stanford University School of Medicine in a recent study on Internet addiction: "The United States could be rife with Internet addicts as clinically ill as alcoholics."

Addiction Horror Stories

Even though most of the addiction horror stories I have read about pertain to the more "typical" dependencies such as alcoholism, drug addiction, and substance abuse, other Internet-related dependencies such as "game addiction" are starting to share the headlines. For instance, there's various stories circulating the Internet about teens and young adults who play online video games 18 or more hours per day.

As disconcerting as this is, the most shocking and disturbing Internet-based addiction story I have heard so far is the following. In 2005, a 54-year-old male, unable to take a break from his online world, died from starvation. How is this possible you ask? Easy. For 7 weeks before his death, he posted comments into one forum after another every 30 seconds, while refusing to eat.

What Can Be Done?

What can a person do who is addicted to the Internet? Among other things, take a break, go outside, and enjoy life. If you think that this is a rather simplistic suggestion, please continue reading.

I remember hearing about a person who complained to his therapist about being depressed and "stuck in a rut" for many years. After listening to her patient ramble on for weeks about his drab, meaningless, and unexciting existence, it came time for the therapist to advise her patient what to do. On the day of reckoning, the therapist calmly smiled at her patient and said: "on a consistent basis, you need to get some sleep and spend some quality time outside in the sun." Upon hearing this, the patient understandably felt "cheated" with such a "simple solution."

The point: sometimes we make things so complex and complicated that we become caught in a cycle of "paralysis by analysis." Clearly, with a more traditional form of therapy such as years of psychoanalysis, the patient described above may have finally "understood" why he had been depressed and "stuck in a rut." Perhaps based on this "insight" he may have started to live his life more honestly, more fully, and with more joy. On the other hand, this same patient might have viewed his world in an entirely different way had he started living in a more healthy manner and developed some quality interests, relationships, and hobbies.

Conclusion

I think we have to learn how to balance our online lives with our lives outside of cyberspace. Sadly, many people engrossed with the Internet haven't learned this and have, as a result, become so enamored with their online activities that their lives, especially their relationships, have become dysfunctional. Realizing this, however, leads to perhaps an even more penetrating question: have our lives become so devoid of meaning that we get hooked on the first thing that seemingly fills this void? If this is even partially on target, this is indeed a sad commentary on our "enlightened" society.

Addiction - Alcohol

Addictions do not discriminate in gender, age, social class, race or religion. It can happen to anyone! The effects on any relationship can be profound. Today, more than ever we are seeing dual addictions of alcohol and drugs. A dangerous, often lethal mix of two mind altering substances.

My focus in this discussion is on alcoholism, but the behaviour will be similar in a drug user or gambler! Do you live with or love someone who drinks too much?

It would be unfair to "label" this person alcoholic as alcoholism is a self diagnostic disease, but what is it like for you? Have you become unreasonable in your attitude? Have you learned to hate the drinking? Do you react badly? Do you monitor or check up on the drinker? Do you count their drinks? Do you cover up or make excuses for the drinker? Do you feel unhappy?

Living with or loving a drinker can be incredibly difficult. Do you feel so consumed by the drinker you have lost a part of yourself? Do you lay blame or guilt on the drinker in an attempt to get them to stop drinking? Do you wake up in the morning feeling angry or anxious about your day ahead? Do you believe that if the drinker loves you the way they say they do, then they would stop drinking or at the very least, be able to control their drinking? How many broken promises have you experienced? Try to understand that while they really do love you, they are troubled by addiction.

The drinker may at times slow down on the drinking, they may make promises of change but this only lasts for a little while. It isn't long before they are back drinking heavily again and behaving as usual. It becomes a "cycle" and.....the cycle continues! Many partners of drinkers believe they detach from the drinker but their anger is never usually dealt with. Many partners remain resentful, unhappy and bitter for many years. Many partners just want relief from the pain associated with living with a drinker.

I am aware that this experience is incredibly painful. To stand by and watch someone you love "self destruct" and to feel like you are sinking into the very same black hole that the drinker is. A sense of hopelessness and a loss of trust occurs in the relationship.

Is there a history of alcoholism in your partner's family, a parent, aunt, uncle or grandparent? Were you aware that your partner drank too much at the beginning of your relationship? Did you believe that once you were together the drinker's behaviour would change? Did this happen?

Whether you choose to stay with the drinker or whether you leave, it is possible to improve your own life. How? Firstly, try to separate the disease or behaviour from the person. When this person is not drinking, are they a good person, someone you love being with?

Secondly, take the focus off them and place the focus on yourself. No amount of controlling, complaining, or threats will make the drinker stop. Guilt will only make them drink more! Step back, stop reacting, and detach in a caring way. They will never get well if we continue to prop them or rescue them. A little "tough love" is required.

Try to manage each day, a day at a time. If you can stop reacting you will in turn feel better about yourself and in more control of your own emotions. This is incredibly difficult to do but necessary!

Try to stop covering for them or propping them. This does not mean you stop loving them or caring about them! It simply means you stop taking responsibility for their addiction. This will take some courage but I know if you have been living with a drinker for some time you possess amazing strength and courage.

Watch out for your own expectations of them. Try not to set yourself up for continued disappointment. Try not to look for emotional support from the drinker because while they are drinking they may not be able to give that to you.

You too need to recover! Self empowerment, self love and self care are all an important part of your own healing. If you intend to take the focus off the drinker, pull back slowly and lovingly.

Why undergo alcohol detoxification at home?

Some people prefer to do alcohol detox at home, then there are others who prefer to go to rehab to get the traditional treatment. There are advantages of going to a rehabilitation center, such as the fact that you will not be the single patient and therefore do not feel left out. See other people like you who go through the same problems, you'd be able to link the best and seek the support of the other. In addition, as there will be no alcoholaround, you'll be less likely to start drinking again.

But the challenge is that once you get home, it is more likely to get back into your old habits. This is one reason why go for detoxification of alcohol at home is preferred by many. That way, you learn to cope with not drinking alcohol again in your own environment, which is probably more effective than kicking the habit in the temporary environment of a rehab center.

It is true that the detoxification of alcohol is difficult and youcan not escape that fact. Like any other form of detox, detoxification of alcohol is also difficult. Following a detox diet can be difficult and is often compared to drug detox and alcohol detoxification. Therefore, people prefer to submit to an alcohol detoxification in the comfort of their homes. It helps them feel more at ease and to support the process with less difficulty.

Difficulties alcohol detoxification at home

Old habits die hard, so if you were a regular drinker and used to drinkat home every night, it can be very difficult to resist drinking in the comfort of your own home, your own environment. There are different models that occur with different drinkers. It is important to take these habits and patterns into consideration and then decide whether it is a good choice to undergo detoxification alcohol at home.

Nothing comes easy in life, so if you want better you will also need to face these challenges. But there is a silver lining to the objectalcohol detoxification at home, since you'll be at home even after treatment is completed there is less chance that you return to your old habit of drinking once you have completed your detoxification program.

There is always a chance for consumers to change once the environment changes where they live. So those who go through detox alcohol rehabilitation center, it is extremely difficult to resist the temptation once they are released from the rehabilitation center. So if you decide to deal withchallenge of an alcohol detox at home, then you are better prepared for the difficult time after your detox program is over and therefore stand a better chance of overcoming your alcoholism.

Learn how to counteract the stress-related illnesses

The current generation is full of stress that trigger activities that cause people to suffer from stress related illnesses. The sad news is that stress is something we can not eliminate from our lives every day, especially since the economic crisis has left everyone on edge. Many lose their jobs, people lose their homes and their resources, and many more problems that we face in life. But this is not because the stress is already part of our lives, so we will notnothing to prevent it from happening. Stress should not be taken for granted, once ignored may lead to several health problems such as such as hypertension, eating disorders, heart problems, alcoholism, and many more.

To fight against diseases related to stress, here are some things you can do:

1. Leave your work at the office. Make a point to organize your life. No matter how you're convinced that you need to work for a certain office tasks at home,Do not be tempted to put your worries at work in your home. When at work, go do your work and punch out. So if you ever have a bad day at work, forget your worries, because you must enter your home in a positive way, because you give every little thing you feel when your children if you demonstrate a positive attitude Your child will enjoy better.

2. Manage time efficiently. If ever you can easily manage your day because of the many books that you do, evaluate how youspend your time. If you can not answer all the work in the day then chances are you do too. Remember that you're just a person with his own limitations.

3. Give time to be alone. This rule is one of the most important things to do to fight against stress-related illnesses. Everyone deserves to have some time alone to be devoted to relaxation. This world is go, go, go, all the time, where people do not like to take some time tostop, even a little. The right one for you to do is to have enough "me" moments. How about a range of massage? Try to submit a service for the face. Also, you can read books or play Internet games to divert your mind into something that is relaxing. Take time to realize that you have your own needs to meet to fight against diseases associated with stress effectively.

Is alcoholism inherited?

The theme of the debate is much medical alcohol may pass their illness to their children? Many signs are pointing to yes, but not in the typical way.

With a "typical" disease, our genetic heritage can help if we are more vulnerable to diseases like Cancer, or other medical conditions. However there is no genetic material that will make our children feel like alcohol.

So that means that there are certain personality traits that can be inherited from ourgenetic composition that could make our children more likely to turn to alcohol across the board? Studies show there, even if these characteristics are usually only partially hereditary.

So while it is not hereditary, alcohol can pass from one generation to another because of the influence of the environment. If you are a child of an alcoholic you are 4 times more likely to grow up to become an alcoholic than someone who is not a child of an alcoholic. This is trueeven if you live in a house with an alcoholic and it should not be a parent. This could be a brother or an aunt who lives with you. If you think about it, it makes much sense. You watch your parents grow up with this behavior and it tends to be drawn. You become a product of your environment. If you grow up learning that the only way to cope with a stressful situation is to drink a glass is what you do.

I have a childhood friend whose mother was aalcoholic and it's sad to say, she began drinking when she was seventeen. At 21, she was a full flight alcoholic who insisted everyone that she has not had an alcohol problem and could not stop drinking when she wanted. These were the exact words she had heard her mother many times throughout these years. It was his mother died of liver failure that has finally woken up and she got her eyes open. She finally got help by joining AA and has been sober for 4years.

This does not mean however, that everyone who grew up in a house with an alcoholic is linked to an alcoholic, there's just a greater risk. There are people who realize that what they see at home is not always right and they take steps to avoid falling into the same pitfalls they have seen. My husband comes from a family of alcoholics. His uncle, brother and cousin are all recovering alcoholics. Because of what he has seen pass by them, and he looked down everdeeper into the illness he has given to drink after our first daughter was born almost 2 years.

So while it is not transmitted from generation to generation by our genes, it can be transmitted from generation to generation.

The stages of alcoholism

There are three stages of alcoholism. As many people know, alcoholism can take years to develop. Alcoholism begins when drinking starts affecting the physical and mental health of the drinker - they have crossed that invisible line in the alcoholism.

In the early stages of alcoholism the drinker has started to drink for new reasons. They drink to change their mood or maybe to help daily stress or a problem. At this point friends and familyknows he or she became an alcoholic. Chances are not the drinker.

In the intermediate phase of the drinker no longer need a reason to drink. They may even fabricate reasons to drink. He or she is now safe passage on the socially acceptable limits, until they reach a checkpoint loss or failure. The drinker can have a DUI. Relatives and friends are now aware that there is a problem drinker and became angry when alcohol is mentioned. The drinker thinks heshe can stop drinking any time they want. This is no longer the case. They say "I'll never drink again!" And sincerely mean it. They are shocked to find that when they stopped, the desire of alcohol are all but unbearable.

The advanced stages of alcoholism are friends and family of the alcoholic was appalled by the self-destruction the drinker is engaged in. There is damage to internal organs, and body and mind is slipping away. Anyone who tries to talk abouttippler leaving wasting time. These efforts are falling in deaf ears.

At this stage, it will take a catastrophic event to get the alcoholic or he decides it really wants to stop drinking. At this late stage when the drinker makes a sincere attempt to stop drinking, he or she will know that the addiction has completely captured, there will be extreme withdrawal symptoms.

It is very difficult to overcome an addiction to alcohol. Many alcoholicsare able to get well, and some, no matter how hard they try just can not stop drinking. Dual diagnosis - what makes it so effective?

In simple terms, a dual diagnosis may be defined as the coexistence of mental disorders and other issues, such as alcoholism, drug addiction, eating disorders or sexual addiction. In general, these treatments in place a program of drug or a rehabilitation program with an effective psychiatric treatment while giving patients plenty of time to recover.

When people are affected by depression or other mood disorders, they usually turn to alcohol or drugs, instead of seeking psychiatricHelp. Without understanding that their condition is treatable and curable, these people rely on incentives to ease depression and feel better. However, once the effect of stimulants decreases, the patient is still in a bad mood. Thus, dual diagnosis aims to address these two issues together and help the patient overcome the symptoms associated with both.

Here are more closely how drugs and alcohol exacerbate mood swings or depression:

* Medications: It is not uncommon for people - especiallyyoung people - to turn to prescription drugs or recreational order to facilitate depression and feel better. One of the most popular drugs of cocaine. This drug acts on the brain and causes a feeling of euphoria for the user. However, after the effect of the drug wears off, the user feels even more depressed and is forced to consume a growing high on drugs. Dual diagnosis will help the patient get rid of drugs and avoid feeling depressed.

* Alcohol: When people feel sad, depressed orsolitary, they consume alcohol to feel better. Alcohol can numb the depression and physical pain or pain related to mental disorders. However, once the alcoholic effect diminishes, the person experiences headaches, dehydration, and even nausea. Without appropriate intervention, the person becomes ill quickly hooked.

When a person is treated in a treatment center dual diagnosis, it usually receives a powerful combination of detoxification, prescription drugs, and psychotherapy. Dual diagnosis willkeep patient depressive feelings at bay while effectively utilizing the recovery of substance abuse.

Problems with drugs and rehabilitation does not work? Try a different approach

You may have been put on medication to temporarily solve your drug addiction or dependency problem. If you are still drugs, pills or back to help, even after the council it is clear drugs are not always the answer to your problem.

But what is the answer to drug abuse, drug addiction or alcoholism? Is there one answer?

Working in the rehabilitation of drug / substance abuse and addiction field for 10 years, I discovered that there is always more than one answer. Problems of lifethreat that people enter fully into drug addiction or abuse problems are very important.

Finding the Right Rehab Program

The right questions should be: How long have you been abusing drugs or alcohol? What happens when you try to stop? How long can you stay clean? Do you have something in your life that you might make more desirable for drugs? Do you know how to make your body function normally without medication?

People are trapped in the help and abuse of alcohol and drugsbecause they do not really know better. If they had a better solution to their problems, they would. But all they got is a bottle, a prescription for certain drugs or solve their problems.

Sometimes, obtain drugs or alcohol is easy. When the problem is major or life-threatening if the person has had numerous attempts at detoxification, rehabilitation and things do not work, you need to take a different approach to detoxification and rehabilitation strategy .

Adopting a different approachthe type of program or methods you have tried. This means that if the programs of rehabilitation or detoxification have been a substitute for drugs or psych-based program, try alternative or holistic. If 12 steps are always used, try cognitive or learning / behavioral model. If hospitals were used, the use rehabs inviting with a personal touch.

The idea here is that if the method of rehabilitation or detoxification was not working, use a different method.

Here is a detoxification and rehabilitation of a successful person who just stopped doing'Normal' and tried a different approach from those he had already tried 10 times before.

I have been sober for about 3 years now. I have a job, I have a good relationship with my family and I am happy for the first time in years.

I had been in over 10 different rehabilitation centers, some of which I returned several times. My family was in total support to make me clean, but does support me in my addiction that left me homeless for most of the timeI used. Each treatment center that I went to wanted to be free of addiction and get back to my family a sober person. I was put on medication that temporarily solved my problem, but once I was out of them I'm on drugs and unable to cope with my life, some of the drugs gave me my gave more problems than I had originally.

Personally, I was not a fan of someone else telling me what my problem was or how to fix it, but in another program, Icome to understand that for me.

Different types of rehabilitation programs

The foregoing is not an endorsement of a rehabilitation program, because I work with many other detoxification and rehabilitation centers and programs. I found that if people did not get results with what they thought was the "right" way to detox and rehabilitation, they have advanced in recovery when they took One approach to solve their various addictions.

rehabilitation of that person was dependentobtain drugs and medicines - which can be an approach that some wish to take. This message of rehabilitation is that if a rehabilitation method does not work despite honest efforts, try a different rehabilitation and detoxification method.

Success Rates Drug Rehab

Looking at the Google AdWords ads, you can see that there is competition between the drug treatment programs to tout who has rehabilitation centers more successful. The truth is that these success rates are published on. What one group considers a success is different for another.

Some people count their success depends on reducing drug use overall, even if someone uses drugs twice a week instead of every day they still call this success. Other programs do the right things and measureif someone is using drugs at all. It is a true success rate. However, some may stop counting when the person leaves the program, or in the first months after their completion. The more they measure the success and drug-free state, the better.

In addition, it should be noted that the retention rate is a factor. Retention rate is the number of people who enroll in the program compared to the percentage of those who actually complete it. Generally, a retention rate exceeding 50% is better thanaverage. The best retention rates in the long-term residential programs participating in the National Drug Abuse Treatment Outcome Study (DATOS) was 65%.

rehabilitation centers that claim all sorts of success rate can be confusing. The key to find which ones make sense is to see what they consider to be a success. In other words, they believe that someone has just completed their program is a success? Do they feel someone going to meetings (whether clean or not) is a success? Or worse,They really put on some type of alternative drugs and addiction continues to believe that it is a success? An example of this could be methadone. If they are not on heroin, but are drinking and taking methadone programs may still be considered successful as well.

The key is not to be confused or taken in what is printed until you the truth. We can help you discover how the programs to determine their success rate reported and whether or not it is worthyour time and your money. Not all long-term detoxification programs will produce the same result.

Most treatment centers will not be printed or talk about what their success rates are. Because of this lack of benchmarking, some rehabilitation centers have their own follow-up interviews to see how their program completion are coping in daily life. Based on their findings is how they usually come with their success rate.

Here's what you have to watch as a consumer - whatthings they are measuring to determine their success? If a program does not promote success rate, know the criteria for success in their eyes. In addition, it is also important to consider other factors in determining life success. These are things such as criminal behavior or other recent arrests, part time or full-time employment, relationships with family and friends, etc.

How to stop using drugs and alcohol and to stay stopped

Sick and tired of being sick and tired?

Only you can determine if you are ready to stop using drugs and alcohol. Nobody can "make" to stop.

No judge, no wife, no banker, no parent, no boss can make you stop and stay stopped.

You can diagnose yourself if you could be suffering from drug addiction and alcoholism.

Try to stop yourself for a year.

You can also try to drink a "single" .. or get a single "bump" .. try it a few times .. chances are if you arereading what you have just had a problem.

Drug addiction and alcoholism is a treatable disease. It is characterized by an obsession of the mind that tells you that you can drink and use like normal people ... followed by an allergy of the organization you lose complete control to accurately predict the results of your behavior ... simply. . Once you pick up the first of anything .. you have no willpower to stop .. you are hopeless and helpless .. You're like a man who lost hislegs .. it can push the ....

Drug addicts and alcoholics end up in jails, institutions or they simply die.

Who cares to admit complete defeat ... practically zero. Drug addicts and alcoholics will continue their quest to drink and use for the doors to madness ...." "..." one more time will be different this time ".." I'll only few and go home. "is a long list.

There is no magic "cure". There is no easy solution. You can not use your desire to stop and remain stopped for anyreasonable time.

What is the solution.

Depending on your fitness for a trip to the local emergency room is the first place to start.

Tell the doctor what is going on with you ... you drug and / or alcohol.

They can make a medical assessment of what harm you have done to your body .... and perhaps admit that you have to detox.

Immediately after detoxification .. go to first Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous meeting, you can find.

Just callInformation and a member of the award will contact you and even arrange a tour for you to attend the meetings.

Alcoholics Anonymous is really the only way that has proven to stop drinking .. Millions of people have recovered all.

The stop is one thing ... Keeping order is another and Alcoholics Anonymous is the only way to help you stay stopped. Science and medicine may one day be this bad ... but since 1935 ... Alcoholics Anonymous can notbe beaten.

Remember in three stages.

1. If you do not pick up the first drink .. you can not get drunk.
2. Go to meetings, read the big book that some call.
3. Repeat steps 1 and 2.

Signs of Addiction - How to know if someone you care about drug use

If you have already experienced an addiction or know someone who has, it can be an ordeal to pass. Most of us have never been there well and do not know the first thing to deal with addiction. Whether you or a family member, there are some signs of addiction that can be detected earlier and later as addiction sets in. In this article I will discuss some of the most notable signs of addiction you should beknowledge.

Firstly, how is the mood of the person? If someone has been particularly sluggish for the past two months, or they have problems with depression and anger, which could be an early sign of addiction. Addressing the issue lightly if you wear it at all. Yelling and threatening someone with a severe drug addiction could be detrimental to their well-being, and could turn against you if you're not careful. Look for emotional instability as one of the first signsdependence.

Then, try to search for physical signs. The "speed freaks" will shake a lot and have nervous movements. Cocaine and other drug related are scratching a lot (you will find this often with people addicted to cocaine). Lack of motivation, response time, personal hygiene, and ambition are all great signs of physical addiction. If your friend's hand trembles when he drinks in the fridge, it probably did notParkinson's disease, but develops some type of physical dependence.

Finally, notice if they are always broke and always need money. Many addicts are lazy, or their work does not pay them enough money to pay for high quality medicines on the black market they need, then they will fly and fly to places of their relatives. If you have been recently stolen, it could be a friend or family member tries to pawn your goods for a little money - to support their inevitabledrugs. If this happens right under your nose, you need to stop immediately and make sure that people receive treatment. Allow behavior like this only encourages them to continue drug users to continue to do so.

In conclusion, there are many signs of abuse there. Some are too obvious and are not the same, so you must keep a watchful eye on those you suspect are abusing drugs. Mood, emotion, mental and physical well-being all play a role inyour goal of trying to help someone to stop abusing illicit substances. Use your senses and be vigilant at all times if you suspect that someone you love is abusing drugs.

Alcoholism - Easy Ticket To Death

How often you drink alcohol? Is your lifestyle? When was the last time you actually said no to a bottle of whiskey? Over the years, alcohol has become an integral part of any social gathering, whether a business meeting or a meeting with friends and family. Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner parties are hardly complete without a sparkling wine or two to celebrate. Alcohol has carved a special place in the social life of mankind. Alcohol is not bad at all, it is how oftenand how much we eat what is vicious.

It is difficult to say what personality traits are likely to develop alcoholism, but the potential alcoholics are generally those that have a low tolerance for frustration, still feel isolated, those who tend to act impulsively. In addition, people who still have the taste of rebels and those who have a very low tolerance capacity alcoholics are also possible. Alcoholism is an addiction that is graduallydeveloped. Initially, the person can start with drinks safe for social purposes, but the effect of voltage drop in consumption is too good to resist and too often, he likes the feeling. Then he begins to drink alone, no longer with the company of friends and associates during social gatherings and parties, but rather enjoys the drink by himself and not for the purpose of socialization. Soon the "high" that alcohol was so convincing and the dependence becomes strongerhe begins to drink in secret. Finally, it becomes a chronic alcoholic, when he can not start his day without a drink in the morning. He usually delivers drinking to be able to meet the requirements of the oncoming days.

Alcoholism as with any other type of addiction comes with two physical and mental effects. Since alcohol is easily absorbed and rapidly distributed throughout the body, it affects almost all cells in particular brain cells. Alcohol acts as a depressant of the propertymost people believe as a stimulant probably because of the initial effect, it provides the body. Studies show that a person consumes about 60 to 90 ml of whiskey, resulting in a blood alcohol level of about 0.05 per cent has the highest brain centers depressed. This will result in an alteration of judgments and inhibitions diminished. As the level of alcohol increases the number of centers of the brain affected will also increase, accompanied by some physical effects.A concentration of alcohol of 0.1 per cent in the blood after 102 to 175 ml whiskey consumption may support some of the motor areas of the brain that are responsible for balance, manual dexterity and speech. A person can succumb to the death if his alcohol level in blood reached 0.7 percent after consuming approximately 800 to 1200 ml of whiskey. At this level, most of the centers of the brain are depressed especially those that control the heartbeat and breathing and can tragically result in a persondeath.

Chronic alcoholism can make a person of various mental disorders. Generally, an alcoholic has a state mental disorder, ego-centered and often generally odious to others. Often, it can suffer from hallucinations and delirium tremors. Alcohol can also leave a memory impaired person. Quite clearly, alcohol can be the life of a party, but it could also mean death to a person who forgets to drink in moderation. Alcoholism does not mean a sudden deathperson, but it is certainly one way ticket in first class to that destination.

Signs of Addiction - How can you tell if a loved one is using?

There are many different drug sings. When people take drugs on the brain's pleasure center is sent a stream of messages that overload the brain region. In particular, dopamine, a neurotransmitter is released causing a feeling of euphoria. Subsequently, the drug may eventually have different side effects, including insomnia, weight loss, or even death. To help you determine if a loved one is showing signs of addiction, here is a list of somecommon signs:

Hostility or anger-

-Anxiety or irritability

suicidal thoughts or depression-

health problems such as heart attack

In addition, significant drug can be found on several occasions when users use drugs even after they realize how it ruins their relationship begins or health problems. Medications can also affect your thinking. Exactly your memory and learning ability may be damaged due to continued unrestdrug use. Students who use drugs may see a decline in their grades or lower levels of job performance.

There are also several secondary signs of addiction. One area is increasing or monetary legal issues. Many drug users are unable to pay their bills by keeping their money for drugs. In addition, legal issues may arise regarding drugs make people more impulsive resulted in a rash behavior for some.

Another area is where their current behavior is a broaddeparture from past behavior. If the person does not have the same activities they did in the past or avoid friends or family, this may be a sign of addiction.

However, these areas should be considered secondary in consideration of other information and evidence. Many of these secondary signs can be caused by other factors not related to drug use. However, some common signs more direct to consider include slurred speech, dilated pupils, red andwatery eyes or twitching of the body. These signs may be better indicators of drug use, but specific symptoms may vary depending on the specific drugs used.

If you determine that a friend or relative can be drugs, addiction intervention may be necessary. It is a good idea to discuss your concerns with family members and friends to see if others see signs of the same drug addiction. However, once it is determined that the person has a drugaddiction intervention addiction should be a tool you should consider to help them embark on the path to recovery.

Five Warning Signs of Alcoholism

Most of us now understand that alcoholism is a disease, and nobody tries to catch a disease intentionally. But the cause of alcoholism is very readable discernible - drink alcohol. Yet most adults drink at least occasionally, in spite of this knowledge.

Why take the risk? Of course, there are feelings of pleasure associated with the consumption of alcohol. It loosens inhibitions and makes it easier for some to meet and talk to new people. The fact that suchprecursor to such a vast insidious disease, as well, most people are convinced that they do not like this drink. They do not know they can be on the road to a bad case of alcoholism today. social drinkers is another one of the first stage of alcoholism. Not only is it hard to tell who will come out of alcoholism and will not, but those affected will do everything in their power to deny others and often to themselves. This makes it even more difficult todiagnose.

But there are warning signs. If you are worried in the beginning of alcoholism States you think about these things:

1. If you start to be concerned about the level of your drinking, you probably should be. Even if you do not dwell on these types of thoughts, but they come to you from time to time, is an indication that you might have a substance abuse problem.

2. People who know and care about you begin to talk about their concerns about yourdrinking. Maybe they do not even mention it, but you start to notice the pursuits related to alcohol. A sure sign of alcoholism or current is imminent have had several brushes with the law for offenses related to alcohol.

3. If you drink socially, you may lose some inhibitions, but your staff does not change. When you are suffering from alcoholism, drinking makes changes very specific about spirits. These can vary from person to person, but could take the form of stupidity, happiness, depression, irritability, or even something more aggressive and dangerous.

4. Your change of behavior when he drinks to the point where you do things you would never think to fasting.

5. You pass an opportunity, social drinker, a regular or repetitive. If you drink an amount exceeding the legal limits every time you drink, and begins to make more and more often, you probably need to look closeryour relationship with alcohol.

From this list, alcoholism is not as far as you think. Many people collect more than one of these five criteria, but consider themselves alcoholics. But remember, the alcoholic denial as long as possible. He / she may need a drink every day, meet all the criteria above, and still swear up and down that he could stop any time, but he can not, and all world around him knows.

If you look at the list above and you seedescribed, do not despair. Here's what you should do:

1. Alcoholism is a disease of addiction, and the best thing you can do to start on the road to recovery is to join Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). The addict you balk, but go to a meeting. Take care. Take your life.

2. Jump to an exploratory meeting with an addiction counselor. They will help you find the path that leads to alcoholism and your you will see clearly where your addictionFinally, you lead.

3. Just stop drinking. Although, fair warning, it is difficult and does not work for most people. You'll probably need counseling or AA to get rid of your addiction. But maybe you're not far enough, or perhaps you are someone with the power to remove.

4. Slow your consumption of alcohol. Again, this will probably not work, it did not in most cases. However, if you are just starting to worry about alcoholism, it is possible that you can alwaysround the problem early stages Return to moderate consumption of alcohol that you were social.

5. If none of these work for you, check yourself into a more intense "dry" or addiction internally.

Alcoholism is a progressive disease, and if you have the early warning signals and do nothing, your health, your family, your career, in fact, your whole life will be affected. Take action while you can!
